Helping Others Get To Where They Want To Go
“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.”
~ Psalm 33:11
Some people love to give advice . . . even when no one is asking. Advice is only as good as the advisor. It’s value is based on the advisor’s expertise and experience.
The psalmist praises the counsel of The Lord, and in turn the Wonderful Counselor. (Is 9;6) The counsel of The Lord is timely, as well as timeless. It is eternal direction with everlasting design. It is His holy input leading to His heart’s implementation. His counsel and His plans are comprehensive and complimenting.
The Counsel Of The Lord is Infinite. Our God is everlasting to everlasting. (Ps 90:2). His insight is drawn from His infinite existence. He is the all knowing and all wise God. The prophet Isaiah writes, “O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.” (Isaiah 25:1) Indeed, God’s counsel stands forever.
The Counsel Of The Lord is Inexhuastble. David tells us in Psalm 139 that God knows everything about us. The psalmist writes, “The Lord looks down from heaven; He sees all the children of man; from where He sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth.” (Psalm 33:13-14). He knows about our past, present and future. He knows what fears we face and what failures we long to forget. He knows our greatest strength and our most grieving weakness. He knows all and He knows all about us.
The Counsel Of The Lord is Intentional. Gods direction is deliberate. David writes, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8). His guidance always leads to His glory, “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.” (Psalm 73:24). Jerimiah reminds that God has a strategy for our significance, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jer 29:11)
The Counsel Of The Lord is Impacting. God’s eternal counsel initiated a plan of everlasting compassion. Paul writes, “In him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth.” (Ephesians 1:7-10)
The Wonderful Counselor gives us wonderful counsel. He looks beyond our faults and sees our need. Wait on His voice . . . Walk with His heart.
