True Treasure

True Treasure

I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ Himself. In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Colossians 2:2-3 NLT

Several years ago while vacationing at the beach, we found a play area with the theme of a pirate ship.  We decided to create a treasure hunt for our grandkids.  With a map, treasure chest and treasures in place, we started the hunt . . . after all, who doesn’t want to be a pirate and who doesn’t want to find buried treasure?  Our grands couldn’t wait to look at the map, follow the clued trail and find the treasure.

Paul reminded that we have a rich and valued treasure in Christ.  The greatest and unending wealth in wisdom and riches of knowledge is found in Him.  As we walk in His presence, we find the worth of His preciousness.  There are clues to the treasures He has hidden for us strategically placed along our way.

Those who seek truth and wisdom . . . living out truth and walking in wisdom . . . do so with absolute abandonment.  Solomon encouraged, “Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.” (Prov 2:4 NLT)

Search With Purpose.

It takes commitment and conviction to be a treasure hunter.  There is a hope and belief in those who possessed the treasure and most likely hid it in fear of loss or theft.  The treasure found in Christ can never be lost, taken or stolen.  The prophet Isaiah  outed, “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.” (Isaiah 33:6 NIV).

Our propose is determined.

Search With Passion.

Nothing detours or distracts a treasure hunter.  His focus is fixed.  The perspective of problems change because of the passion for the prize.  Some of the trials we encounter are treasures to be embraced.  These challenges of discomfort can release us from the chains of comfort.  When we are loosed from our chains, we are committed to the cause.  Jesus reminded His followers of the overwhelming worth of a life with God, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.” (Matt 13:44 NLT).

Our passion is deep.

Search With Promise.

There is a certainty with Christ.  If we look for Him, we will find Him.  Solomon encouraged, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.” (Proverbs 8:17 NIV).  All we have to do is search, ask or inquire . . . He promises to answer in abundance.  James wrote, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (Jam 1:5 NLT).

Our promise is definite.

Shauna Niequist wrote, “. . . God is waiting to be found everywhere, in the darkest corners of our lives, the dead ends and bad neighborhoods we wake up in, and in the simplest, lightest, most singular and luminous moments . . . He wants to be found.”

Who doesn’t want to find the riches of the ages?

Be a truth treasure hunter . . . search for Him with purpose, passion and you will receive His promise.
